The cross-section of a typical flexible pavement is given along with the layer thicknesses (D1
= 8-in., D2 = 7-in., and D3 = 11-in.), layer coefficients, and drainage coefficients. The present
(PSI) and the terminal serviceability (pt) are assumed to be 5.0 and 2.5, respectively.
Assuming a reliability, R = 95% and standard deviation, So = 0.35, using AASHTO method,
determine:
E₁ - 400,000 psi
E₂-30,000 psi

a₂-0.14 m₂-1.2
E, -11,000 psi
ay-0.08 m3-1.2
MR - 5,700 psi
a) The equivalent single axle load, this pavement can withstand;
b) If the subgrade soil is stabilized with 12% hydrated lime resulting in 75% improvement
in its MR value, redesign the pavement (i.e., re-determine D1, D2, and D3);
c) Given the assumption made in part b, design the pavement using PCC.
