2.3 (a) Size the pipes of the following hydraulic network. Assume an average speed in pipes not
to exceed 4 ft/s. The lengths of the straight pipes between the point A and B
are 600, 130 and 120 ft for fluid passing through chiller, coils 1 and coil 2, respectively.
Assume the head loss in chiller coils 1 and coil 2 are 50, 20 and 35 ft of water,
respectively.
(b) Determine the maximum head loss occurring in the circuit and identify in what path it
Occurs.
(c) Select the suitable size of the pump and its speed that consumes the least power to
maintain the flow. If required, you may select two pumps to operate in parallel/or series
mode to meet the requirement. You may use the pump characteristic of the handout on
pumps and ping systems operating at 3500 rpm.
