Question No 2
(a) List five (5) types of fluids, giving one example only for each type of fluid, which you
have encountered so far in your study of Fluid Mechanics.
(b) A cylinder contains a fluid at a relative gauge pressure of 35 kN/m². Express this
pressure in terms of a head in;
i) Water with mass density, pw=103 kg/m³, and
ii) Mercury with mass density, PHg 1.36 x 10 kg/m³
(c) If the atmospheric pressure is 10-33 kN/m², determine the absolute pressure in the
cylinder.
Question No 3
(a) State the properties of fluids.
(b) The pressure and temperature of a quantity of carbon dioxide in a vessel are 600
kN/m² (abs) and 30°C respectively. Find the Mass Density, Specific Weight and
Specific Volume of the gas.
(c) Find the pressure at a depth of 15 m below the free surface of water in a tank.
(d) Calculate the specific weight, specific mass, specific volume and specific gravity of a
liquid having a volume of 6-0 m³ and a weight of 44.0 kN.
