A continuous and aligned glass fiber-reinforced composite
consists of 40% of glass fibers (by volume) having a modulus
of elasticity of 69 GPa dispersed in a hardened resin matrix
with a modulus of elasticity of 3.4 GPa
1. Compute the modulus of elasticity of this composite in the
longitudinal direction
2. If the cross sectional area is 250 mm2 and the stress of 50
MPa is applied in the longitudinal direction, compute the load
carried by each fiber and matrix phase.
3. Determine the stain that is sustained by each phase
