5.15 According to the Independent newspaper (London, March 8, 1994), the Metropolitan Police in London reported 30,475 people as missing in the year ending March 1993. For those of age 13 or less, 33 of 3271 missing males and 38 of 2486 missing females were still missing a year later. For ages 14-18, the values were 63 of 7256 males and 108 of 8877 females; for ages 19 and above, the values were 157 of 5065 males and 159 of 3520 females. Your answer should be in the form of a short paper, containing the following: a) Summary of not more than half page in length, explaining how the probability of missing person recovery varies depending on age and gender of the missing person. You should include confidence interval statements as well as point estimates of quantities of interest. b) A supporting evidence section of not more than 2 pages in length, explaining how you arrived at the conclusions summarized in the previous part, and defending the model on which those conclusions were based. Here you should include your computer output and any hypotheses you tested.
