1) (Seven parts; 35 marks in total) An agronomist conducted an experiment to test the effectiveness of three
types of fertilizers (A, B, and C) and two levels of irrigation (low and high) on the mean yield of potatoes (in
tonnes/hectare). She grew the potatoes in 4 replicate plots for each combination of these two factors
arranged in a completely randomized design in a uniform field.
a) (5 marks) Initially, the agronomist analyzed the results of the experiment with two-factor ANOVA
(without including interaction), obtaining computer output as shown below (though some values are
missing). At the 1% significance level, perform the most appropriate test to determine whether there is
an effect of the fertilizer type on mean potato crop yield. Show ALL steps.
