Refer to Figure 9.1, where a 2.0 m x 3.0 m flexible founda-
tion is placed in a saturated clay at 1.5 m depth. Bedrock lies
at 4.0 m below the foundation. The clay is overconsolidated
with OCR = 2, undrained shear strength 60 kN/m², and
plasticity index = 45. If the pressure applied by the founda-
tion to the underlying soil is 80.0 kN/m², determine the aver-
age elastic settlement.
