(1) has a cross-sectional area of 450 mm² while member (2) has a cross-sectional area of 300 mm².
For an applied load of P = 55 kN, determine:
a) The deformation of Member (1).
b) The deformation of Member (2). [Ans. to check: 6.67 mm elongation]
c) Assume that Member BC is rigid (i.e. it does not bend). Using geometry, calculate the beam's
deflection at point B. Hint: sketch the deflection of the beam based on how Members (1) and (2)
are deforming.
