A tailless UAV aircraft weighs 25,000 lbf (including two tip tanks
weighing 200 lbf located with their c.g.'s 120 in from the airplane
center of mass.) Due to a wind gust, the plane touches down with
only one wheel on the runway. At this instant, the ground reaction
is 50,000 lbf and the resultant aerodynamic lift is 20,000 lbf acting
thorough the aircraft c.g.
The z-axis is defined upwards and the x-axis is into the page.
This landing creates an angular acceleration of 1.5 rad/s² (urp-good thing there is no pilot!) Determine the angular
acceleration direction, clockwise or counter-clockwise.
a) Determine the load factor ng for the aircraft;
b) Would the left or right tank have a larger apparent weight? Show the calculation. Note that this would affect the
shear at the attachment point of the tip tank and also affect the moment at the root of the wing.
