3. The two-dimensional solid shown below generates heat internally at the rate of 2.2 MW/m³.
Two of its faces are insulated while two are exposed to a convection environment at 22 °C. The
top and right faces have a convection coefficient of 444 W/m²K. a) Using the mesh and notation
shown in the figure where x = 4y = 5 mm, calculate the steady-state temperature distribution if
the material's thermal conductivity is 18 W/mK. b) Check your solution by finding the heat flux
out of the top and right faces per unit depth, then comparing the sum of those values to the total
heat being generated by the solid.
