Consider the system composed of blocks, springs, cables, and pulleys, shown in Figure 1. The springs e and f had the same original length. They change length as shown in Figure 2. Say you want to find the forces in springs e and f directly from a single subsystem. Choose that subsystem by clicking on the parts in the diagram to assemble the subsystem (you cannot choose the pulleys nor cables wrapped around them). The chosen parts become darker. To deselect a part, simply click it again and it would become lighter again.
