2.1. A small waterjet-boat takes in water directly through its bow at 0.03 m³/s while traveling with a velocity of 10 m/s. The water level of the lake on which the boat is moving may be assumed to be flat. Make and explain appropriate assumptions, and then determine the following by using, among others, appropriate Reynolds Transport Theorem-derived equations: (a) If the water is ejected from a pump through the stern at 30 m/s, measured relative to the boat, determine the thrust developed by the engine. 10 m/s (b) What would the thrust be if the water were taken in along the sides of the boat, perpendicular to the direction of motion? (c) If the efficiency is defined as the work done per unit time divided by the energy supplied per unit time, then determine the efficiency for each case. 2.2. A model of this boat is built to a scale of 1:50. (a) Determine the required kinematic viscosity of the water in the water tunnel to test the model so that the Froude and Reynolds numbers remain the same for the model and the prototype. (b) Is this test practical if the prototype operates in water at 20°C?
