3. A steel bar 10.0 cm long is welded end to end to a copper bar 20.0 cm long. Each bar has a square
cross section 2.00 cm on one side. The free end of
the steel bar is kept at 100 °C by placing it in contact
with steam, and the free and of the copper bar is
kept at 0 °C by placing it in contact with ice. Both
bars are perfectly insulated on their sides.
a) Find the steady state temperature at the
junction of the two bars,

TH = 100°C ///// 2.00 cm / / /|TC = 0°C
b) Determine the total heat flow (heat current) through the bars.
c) Suppose the two bars from above are now
separated and then reconnected such that one
end of each bar is kept at 100 °C and the other
end is kept at 0 °C as shown in the second
figure. What is the total heat current in the two
bars now?
