1. A three-phase round rotor synchronous generator, rated 16 kV (00) and 200 MVA (30), has
negligible losses and a synchronous reactance of 1.65 per unit. It is operated into an infinite bus
(power system) having a voltage of 15 kV (ØØ). The voltage behind synchronous reactance E₁ =
24 kV (ØØ), and the internal angle of the machine relative to the infinite bus is 6=27.4°.
a. Determine the generator current IA and the three-phase real and reactive power being
delivered to the system.
b. If the mechanical input power and the field current (/) of the generator are now
changed so that the machine current decreases by 25% at the power factor of part (a),
find the new Ę.
c. While delivering the reduced current in part (b), the mechanical input power and the
excitation are further adjusted so that the machine operates at unity power factor at its
terminals. Calculate the new EA-
