2. (30 points) A metal bar rides on parallel metal rails (rails are 1.00 m away from each other), connected
through a 10.0 2 resistor, making a complete circuit. You can ignore the resistance of the bar and the
rails. The bar is pulled to the right at a speed of 2.00 m/s. A uniform 1.50-T magnetic field is applied
as shown in Fig.2. The constant kinetic friction between the bar and the rails is 0.1 N. (1) Calculate
the magnitude of the emf induced in the circuit. (2) Find the direction of the current induced in the
circuit. (3) Calculate the current through the resistor. (4) Find the external force acting on the bar. (5)
If the external force acting on the bar is 1.00 N, what is the terminal speed of the bar? (6) How to
understand the conservation of energy of the system in case (5).
