(TOTAL MARKS = 50) Time: 1.5hr 1. A distillation column is separating ethanol and acetone. The column is at a pressure of 1.0 atm. The column has a total condenser and a partial reboiler. Feed 1 flow rate is 80kmol/h and it is a saturated liquid of 70 mol% acetone. Feed 2 flow rate is 100 kmol/h, a two-phase mixture of 60% vapour and 30 mol% acetone. The distillate is 90 mol% acetone and the bottom is 10 mol% acetone. The reflux is a saturated liquid. Boilup ratio is == 2.0 Assume CMO. Equilibrium data are in Table 1. a. Find the flow rates of distillate and bottom. (6 marks) b. Determine and plot the operating lines (top, bottom, middle, 2 feeds) (39 marks) c. Find both optimum feed locations and the total number of equilibrium stages needed. Step off stages from the up bottom.
