Figure 1 shows a single line diagram of 26 bus power system network of a city in Selangor. As a power system planner for the Malaysian Grid Company (MGC), you are tasked to consistently evaluate the network under your care to ensure that the power network is operating in a safe condition. a) Determine the power flow solution for each line. Perform simulations accordingly and present the simulation results for voltage magnitude and angle, generation (P & Q), load (P & Q) and branch data. The criteria used by the utility is that the Voltage Magnitude must be within the standard voltage ranges (Vmax 1.05 pu, Vmin - 0.95 pu) for normal operating condition. i. Determine the power flow solution based on the data given. Based on the power flow simulation results obtained, comment on the voltage stability and the total losses of the system. ii. Place shunt capacitors optimally at the network for voltage stability and losses reduction. Calculate the additional cost needed for the capacitor placements. Use the following information for the evaluation: Cost of capacitors is RM 120.00/kvar. Size per capacitor bank is 100 kvar. There can be multiple capacitor banks in one location. [15 marks] b) It is planned that the city is able to attract big companies and corporations. Recommend the most suitable power system equipment required to be available to ensure a smooth, stable and consistent power supply with minimal interruption. [10 marks] c) As a power system planner, what would you do to make the grid to be more environmentally cleaner and sustainable? Include in your plan how you would you get everybody to agree and be active in your initiative. [5 marks]
