The dimensions of the layers in the planar electrode system,
which is formed by combining 4 different insulation materials,
are as follows:
a1 = 0.1 cm ε r1 =1 Ed1 = 30 kV/cm
a2 = 0.5 cm & r2 = 2.2 Ed 2 = 250 kV/cm
a3 =1.0 cm & r3 = 4 Ed 3 =160 kV/cm
a4 = 2.0 cm & r4 = 6 Ed 4 =150 kV/cm
As 500 kV voltage is applied to the electrode system ends;
a) Calculate the stresses and electric field strengths in the layers.
b) Calculate the capacity of the system (S-400 cm2, Σ0 = 8.854*10-12 F/m)
c) Show if the entire system has been punctured. Find the maximum stress
that can be applied without perforation in any layer of the system.
