Figure 1 shows a simple truss structure consists of three members to support the
load acting at P. The members are made from steel with 200 GPa Young's
Modulus, E and cross section area, A of 6.25x10 m². A design engineer was
assigned to analyze the truss using finite element method to ensure that the
displacement at P is not exceeding 1 mm in x and y directions. By using finite
element method
If the truss is divided into three elements, using the finite element method
i. Assemble the global stiffness matrix of the truss.
ii. Determine the maximum forces in x and y directions at P.
iii. Calculate the stress for each element.
