Question 2 (CLO (3)): 5 marks A small truck has a four cylinder 4 liter Cl engine that operates on the air standard dual cycle using light diesel fuel at an air-fuel ratio of 18. The compression ratio of the engine is 16:1 and the cylinder bore diameter is 12cm. At the start of the compression stroke, conditions in the cylinders are 55°C & 120kPa with exhaust residual. It can be assumed that half of the heat input from combustion is added at constant volume and half at constant pressure. Calculate: a- indicated thermal efficiency. b-exhaust temperature. C- engine volumetric efficiency. Assume Cp & Cv of air to be 1.004 & 0.715 kj/kgK resp; k=1.4. show all equations with values, PV and TS diagrams. Heating value for fuel is 43000 kj/kg.
