1. Digital Modulation Consider a binary digital modulation scheme which uses the following two signal constellation points: (-1, 0) and (0, 1). The constellation diagram is shown below. Suppose the transmitter sends over an AWGN channel, in which the noise has power spectral density No/2 = 0.5. Suppose the receiver uses the optimum detector for binary modulation. a) Compute the probability of error. b) Suggest a better binary modulation constellation with the same average energy as the one shown and explain why it is better.
