ME 311 Project A circular cross-section water tank is to be discharged into a drain (open atmosphere) within a given time frame (minimum 3 hours and maximum 4 hours). A schematic view of the tank and the discharge pipes are shown in the figure. Design a discharge pipe system that includes discharge pipe size (Dp) and valve system: h Water Valve Given: D₁ = 10 m DT Discharge Pipes Drain ho = 8 m, which is maximum water height before the start of discharging. Hint: First: i) formulate the discharge pipe diameter and, second: ii) plot (by using excel sheet) how water height (h) varies with time for different discharge pipe diameters. Use American pipe standards from internet while selecting the pipe diameter. You can also use two discharge pipes to discharge water from the tank. You need to submit the report after two weeks from now on. Your report include: Importance of discharging of water from tanks: (may be because of water contamination in the tank (medical reasons), tank leakage/repair, or tank removal) Design calculations: (formulation of discharge time variation with water height, which is available in your book) Selection of pipe materials: (could be steel, cast iron, plastic materials, or different) and valve (from internet) Cost analysis: (includes the cost of pipes, please select 1 m pipe from tank to valve and another 2 m pipe after valve to drain). Use internet sources to find the cost of pipes and valves at different diameters and select the appropriate diameter and observe the cost.
