Problem 3: An object measures 2 cm high above the optical axis of an optical system
consisting of a 2 cm aperture centered on the optical axis and a thin convex lens L₁ with a
focal length of +5 cm and a diameter of 5 cm. The object is 10 cm in front of the lens and
the aperture is 2 cm in front of the lens (Drawing not to scale.)

Complete the following.
(a) Make a scale drawing on the graph paper below. (Scale: 1 block = 0.5 cm)
(b) Identify the aperture stop for the system.
(c) Find the size and location of the Entrance Pupil.
(d) Find the size and location of the Exit Pupil.
(e) Find the image of the object its location and its transverse magnification.
(f) Complete a to scale ray tracing on the graph paper given in (a) that includes the object,
the image of the object, the aperture and the aperture stop with rays traced to back it
up. Draw the chief ray from the tip of the object to the tip of the image.
