Problem 2: In 2009, it was estimated that, in the US, 1,180,000 new cases of LBD were diagnosed. Among these 1, 180,000 new cases, 1, 020,000 of them occurred among smokers. There were 27 million smokers among the 230 million people in the US in 2005. a) What was the prevalence of smoking in the US in 2005? b) What is the relative risk of LBD for smokers compared to nonsmokers? c) Discuss your results. Problem 3: An ergonomist conducts a survey of tendonitis in a company "XYZ". The prevalence of tendonitis among men is 40/1,000 and among women is 20/1,000. a) Assuming that the data have been age adjusted, is it correct to conclude that men have twice the risk of developing tendonitis as women? b) Explain your answer.
