Problem 4 (non-porous)
The values of KM and Vmax for an enzyme (at 21°C and pH = 7.1) are 0.004 kmol/m³ and 10 kmol/m³s,
respectively. We immobilized this enzyme by attaching it covalently to the surface of acrylamide-based
polymers (non-porous) that can be assumed to have spherical shape (diameter = 2 mm). The
concentration of the substrate in the bulk and surface of acrylamide-based particles are 0.5 kmol/m³ and
0.0091 kmol/m³, respectively. The reaction takes place in a 1-Liter reactor where 1000 polymeric
spheres with immobilized enzyme have been added.
