Problem 1.
a) Find zeros and poles of the following transfer functions and indicate the multiplicity
of the poles and zeros.
G(s)=
5(s+2)
s(s+5)(s+10)
G(s)=
14(s²+4s+5)
s2(s+1)(s+5)(s+9)'
G(s)=
10(s+5)
s+2s+4s2+5s+10
You can use Matlab "roots" command to find zeros and poles, particularly for the last
transfer function. For the obvious solutions, you should obtain the roots by hand.
Note: Type help conv to learn this Matlab command for multiplication of polynomials. For
example, to generate the coefficient vector for a polynomial A=s(s+2)(s+3), we use:
A conv([1,0], conv([1, 2],[1, 3]))=[1, 5, 6, 0]. Type help roots to learn command
"roots".
b) The root locus form is given by 1+kG(s)=0, G(s) = B(s). Plot root locus of the
transfer functions. Which system is stable as k→ ∞?
A(s)
