PROB. #1. Calculate the lateral earth pressure at rest per unit length of the retaining wall shown in Fig. 1.
Sketch the distribution of the earth pressure along the height of the wall. Also determine the magnitude and
location of the resultant earth pressure. Draw separate diagrams for lateral pressure due soil and water.
PROB. #2. For the retaining wall shown in Fig. 2 determine the Rankine's lateral active earth pressure per
unit length of the retaining wall. Also determine the location of the resultant active earth pressure.
PROB. # 3. Repeat problem # 2 for the data shown in Fig. 3.. Draw separate diagrams for lateral
pressure due soil, uniform surcharge and water.
PROB. #4. For the problem shown in Fig. 4 calculate Rankine's active earth pressure for the following
cases:
(a) Before the occurrence of the tensile crack:
(b) After the occurrence of the tensile crack.
Also draw sketches showing the variation of the active earth pressure along the height of the retaining wall.
Determine the location of the resultant earth pressure for (b) only.
