Figure below shows the mechanism of a variable-stroke pump. The drive is taken from
the crank OA to the pin B on the connecting rod CBD. The end C of the connecting rod
carries a slider which is free to move along the curve link EFC. The stroke of the pump
may be varied y rotating the link EFG about the fixed pivot G, although during operation
the position of EFG is fixed.
1. If the crank OA rotates clockwise at 100 rev/min, find the velocity of the piston D for
the position shown in the figure. (Instantaneous centre method) [0.351 m/s]
2. Find the acceleration of the piston D
OA = 75 mm
Radius of curvature of link EFG = 400 mm
Length of connecting rod DC = 400 mm
