7. (30 points)In a nuclear reactor, a 1.5cm diameter cylindrical uranium rod cooled by water serves
as fuel. Heat is generated uniformly in the rods (k=29.5W/mK) at a rate of 40MW/m³. The outer
surface temperature of the rod is 220°C.
(a) Determine the heat generation rate and heat flux from a 1m long rod, assuming adiabatic tips
and uniform heat transfer along the rod.
(b) Assuming one-dimensional heat transfer, use equation 2-26 or equivalent to determine the
differential equation that governs this situation and give boundary conditions. State any
assumptions you make during this determination.
(c) Determine temperature as a function of radius and state T(O).
