(a) Determine the values of the principal stresses at point A. Point A is located on the top
surface of the round bar as shown in the figure.
(b) The bar has a yield strength of 94 kpsi. Based on a static load, and using point A as the
critical point, find the factor of safety by using the distortion-energy theory.
(c) Find the factor of safety using the maximum -shear-stress theory. Should the result be
greater or less than that obtained in part (b)? Why?
